Thanks to the Buccini/Pollin Group, Future Soccer Stars Foundation (FSS), The Delaware Art Museum and The Philadelphia Union over 300 children from inner city Wilmington enjoyed a full day of recreational activities, team building and life skill learning at the 3rd Annual City on the Pitch “PlayDay.” at the University of Delaware.
Centered around soccer, in a day camp atmosphere, children age 8-16 were exposed to the art of the game and participated in thought-provoking activities such as creating their own superhero capes and sharing how they will be a superhero to someone else this summer.
The Buccini/Pollin Group provided not only the main financial contribution, but 18 associates volunteered at the event as well. Chris Buccini explained, “BPG has been devoted to the city of Wilmington and its youth since our inception. As part of our 25th Anniversary, we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to support the Soccer Stars Foundation as it is the convergence of our passions of youth from the City of Wilmington and sports”
Over the program’s short three years of life, participation has quadrupled. Steve Cavalier, Executive Director at FSS, says, “I’m not surprised at the rapid growth of our program. We’ve worked hard to provide kids a solution to the pay-to-play environment in soccer, one that not only provides free access but other positive and enriching experiences and lessons. Through deep partnerships in our community, FSS’ success is everyone’s success. And through a new field we’re building as our home, the citywide youth soccer league will amplify this success.”
When the 76ers Fieldhouse is complete, it will be the new home for the PlayDay and hopefully reach even more children as the event will take place right here in the City of Wilmington.
