The new program partners with The Buccini/Pollin Group and JPMorgan Chase to create job opportunities in the Hospitality field.

Teens in Motion, a program created by The Warehouse, has launched its hospitality division in collaboration with The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG). The program will serve up to 25 teens every quarter who would like to pursue a career in hospitality. The program will focus on personal growth and development training to help them pursue a career in hospitality.

The program will also include soft skills training that is essential to success in both school and the workforce. Teens in Motion directly supports The Warehouse’s mission of creating confident, courageous, and contributing young adults who will make a positive difference in our communities.

This workforce development initiative is funded by JPMorgan Chase.

“We’re proud to help offer another pathway to gainful employment for young people in Delaware,” said Tom Horne, Chief Operations Officer for JPMC Card Services and the firm’s Delaware Market Leader. “In addition to creating more opportunities for young adults in Wilmington, we recognize the importance of soft skills training in preparing them to take advantage of those opportunities as they arise.”

Teens in Motion: Hospitality will be offered in 90-day increments, four times a year for up to 100 teens. The Warehouse will aid in placing the teens into employment. Upon completion of the first session of Teens in Motion there will be 8-week paid internships available across BPG’s restaurant establishments and their tenant partners, currently including Le Cavalier, Bardea, and Stitch House.

Chef-Partner of Le Cavalier, Tyler Akin, will be the coordinator of the hospitality internship track of this program.  Chef Tyler dreamt up this program alongside his partners at BPG upon realizing career advancement opportunities in hospitality would be fewer and further between in the wake of the global pandemic.

“While restaurants are facing historic challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel strongly that American dining culture will bounce back—along with the vibrant job market it creates,” says Chef Tyler Akin. “With Teens in Motion, we aim to share the tools for Delaware’s next generation of culinary leaders to find success and meaning in their work.”

A Wilmington native with pride in serving his community, Akin will be working closely to personally mentor two-thirds of the interns in the program. He will work alongside BPG in procuring and vetting candidates, placing them within the partnering restaurants, developing a curriculum that fosters meaningful growth, and providing long-lasting mentorship well after the program has concluded.

“We have been so inspired by The Warehouse and the work they are doing for our city’s teens,” says Sarah Lamb, VP of Design and Marketing and coordinator of BPG Cares, BPG’s community outreach initiative. “We wanted to align with them on programming and thought that a hospitality training initiative, and Chef Tyler Akin’s passion to bring opportunity to the youth in his industry,  would be a great way to get involved.”

Teens in Motion has three levels, which enables teens to move from Warehouse Teen Membership to Teen Champion to the goal of employment. Interviewing, emotional intelligence training, organizing a service project, and soft skills training are some of the requirements needed to move through the program. Other requirements include restorative practices, cultural problem solving, trauma-informed care, and social/emotional learning. Once completed, teens will be ready for employment at either The Warehouse or with an external partner or employer.
