The Buccini/Pollin Group believes that acts of kindness, when added together, can have a profound effect on the communities in which we live, work, and serve. After the incredibly moving events this past year, we took some time as a company to step back and evaluate our community outreach efforts to ensure that we are being as impactful as possible with our time, resources, and donations. We made a conscious effort during 2020 to align our corporate giving with community organizations and events that support our engagement efforts.

In 2020, we made a thoughtful pledge to The Warehouse to join them in their commitment to Wilmington’s youth. The Warehouse is a dynamic space in Northeast Wilmington, designed for teens by teens, that provides our city’s youth with the tools and opportunities they need to become confident, courageous, and contributing young adults who will make a positive difference in our world.

Thanks to the generosity of our residents, associates, and office tenants during this especially difficult year, we were able to directly impact Wilmington’s youth through our annual Back to School Drive and Thanksgiving Food Drive:

  • 200 students received the supplies they need to reach their highest potential.
  • An estimated 1,000 pounds of non-perishable items were collected that brought hope to the table this holiday season.
  • Over $1,200 in monetary donations were collected to support the ongoing mission of The Warehouse.

Through this partnership, The Warehouse will also be launching the “Teens in Motion” Workforce Development Program with BPG and JPMorgan Chase. Wilmington’s teens will have the opportunity to intern at various restaurants Downtown, learn the ins and outs of the hospitality industry, and create pathways to gainful employment.

BPG recognizes the importance of education, art, and sports programs for underserved youth in our community. By exposing children to these opportunities that would otherwise not be available, we are preparing our City’s youth for a brighter future.

  • To accommodate for virtual learning this fall, BPG offered a Learning Pod in our headquarters for associates with children. Through WAVE, a dedicated Guide was available at all times to help students with remote learning and provide emotional support during this challenging time. With WAVE’s charitable business model, our learning pod also helped sponsor a community pod so it could be accessible to those in need.
  • BPG was proud to sponsor free art classes provided by award-winning folk artist, Eunice Lafate, of Lafate Gallery.
  • In collaboration with Jonathan Whitney and Eliza Jarvis of Flux Creative Consulting, BPG was humbled to contribute “gallery” space at The Residences at Mid-town Park for the powerful Storefront Mural Art Gallery.
  • Thousands of local children have also received training through various basketball, soccer, and lacrosse clinics at the 76ers Fieldhouse.

This is not an exhaustive list of our community engagement efforts, but we truly believe that with this holistic approach to community outreach, we can drive meaningful and sustainable change in our community.

At BPG, we pride ourselves on being leaders in the community. Our guiding principle is to transform the communities we serve for the better, and when our community is hurting, it’s our responsibility to be a part of the solution. We are looking forward to digging deeper in 2021 to create a more equitable community in our hometown of Wilmington.
