WILMINGTON, DE — After over 100 years serving the Wilmington community, the HOTEL DU PONT’s revered Green Room restaurant will host its last day of service on January 1, 2020 prior to a reconceptualization that will immediately follow. Over the past century, the Green Room has been known as the premier dining destination in the region, and more widely as one of the most historic and iconic restaurants in the country.

Known for ornate design elements from the fumed oak paneling, to the coffered oak-beamed ceiling, gold chandeliers, richly textured draperies, and Italian mosaics, the Green Room is celebrated for bringing the elegance and grandeur of the Gilded Age into the 21st century. The award-winning cuisine and thoughtful service have long complemented the dining room’s grand ambiance, leading to Four-Diamond Award recognition from AAA, which the restaurant has held consecutively for 30 years, and a Forbes Four-Star Award. The Green Room has served host to special occasions both big and small, playing a pivotal role in the lives of Wilmingtonians for decades.

“The Buccini/Pollin Group feels extremely fortunate to be stewards of the HOTEL DU PONT’S Green Room, Delaware’s only Four Diamond restaurant. We look at our role as a public trust. After consulting extensively with the community, loyal Green Room diners, historic consultants and an incredibly talented culinary team, we believe that the Green Room’s next iteration will honor its unparalleled pedigree while creating a dining experience today’s guests will want to enjoy frequently,” said Dave Pollin, Co-Founder and President of The Buccini/Pollin Group and Chairman of PM Hotel Group.

After over 100 years in business, HOTEL DU PONT ownership and leadership recognized an opportunity to evolve the space and create an entirely new concept that is at once steeped in tradition and forward-thinking. When the Green Room closes its doors on January 1, 2020 to undergo a phase of reimagining, the Brandywine Room within the hotel will open on January 2,
2020 as a 56-seat pop-up in its place.

The Brandywine Room, overseen by Executive Chef Keith Miller, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week until the new concept opens its doors in the Green Room space, ensuring a seamless transition for guests and locals. For breakfast, guests can expect seasonal fare and artisanal continental breakfast options. Lunch will bring seasonal soups, salads, sandwiches and signature burger offerings. For dinner, the space becomes an intimate steakhouse accompanied by a seasonal, craft cocktail menu. Desserts during lunch and dinner will come from Spark’d and the HOTEL DU PONT Bake Shop’s ongoing collaboration.

Hours for the Brandywine Room beginning January 2, 2020 will operate as follows:

  • Breakfast: 6:30 – 11:00 AM from Monday through Friday
  • Brunch: 7:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday
  • Lunch: 11:30 AM – 2PM from Monday through Sunday
  • Dinner: 5:00 – 9:30 PM from Monday through Sunday

Guests are encouraged to make their reservations now to make lasting memories at the storied Green Room through the end of the year. In keeping with tradition, a full schedule of holiday events will be hosted at the Green Room this holiday season. For Reservations at the Green Room or Brandywine Room, please call (302) 594-3154 or visit the hotel’s website. Reservations are strongly suggested for all meals including breakfast, and most especially for holiday events and Sunday brunch.

In the Spring, upon completion of a full redesign and a reconceptualization of the Green Room, an entirely new French restaurant will be introduced to the HOTEL DU PONT and Wilmington community. More details on the forthcoming restaurant will be announced in the weeks to follow.
