Buccini Pollin Group is proud to have celebrated the grand opening of Sprinturf Performance Park at Kirkwood. The event followed the completion of a $10 million renovation to the 65-acre sports complex in New Castle, Delaware. The October 29 event brought together Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, local officials, and project partners to recognize the significant investment in Delaware’s growing sports tourism industry.
Formerly known as Kirkwood Sports Complex, the facility has served generations of local athletes and families. The completed improvements position it to continue supporting youth sports while attracting larger regional and national tournaments to Delaware.
$10 Million Renovation Modernizes Kirkwood Sports Complex
The renovation marked the first major capital improvement project at the facility in more than 30 years. The work included four new synthetic all-weather turf fields, resurfacing an existing turf field, new sod, upgraded stadium lighting, improvements to guest facilities, expanded parking, and renovations to the indoor turf arena.
The improvements enhanced the complex’s ability to accommodate practices, games, and tournaments throughout the year. The newly installed all-weather playing surfaces provided greater flexibility for scheduling. Additionally, upgraded facilities and expanded parking improved the experience for athletes, coaches, and visiting families.
The $10 million capital improvement program received $4 million in grant funding from the Delaware Sports Tourism Capital Investment Fund. BPGS Construction managed the renovation, helping deliver the extensive upgrades across the property.
Investing in Youth Sports and Delaware’s Sports Tourism Economy
The ribbon-cutting marked the end of the first phase of the multi-phase site overhaul, returning the property to daily operations with its expanded layout.
“SPRINTURF is a major draw for Delaware, and we’re proud to invest in a top-of-the-line facility that will keep bringing coaches, players, families, and out-of-state dollars to our community,” said Rob Buccini, founder of Buccini Pollin Group.
The project reflected BPG’s continued investment in Delaware and its commitment to initiatives that contribute to the region’s long-term growth. Across real estate, construction, property management, and sports and entertainment, BPG works on projects that strengthen communities and create opportunities for residents and visitors.
