Wilmington Revitalization movement

RIVERFRONT

Started in 1996, the Riverfront development was a collaborative public-private effort to transform the former industrial wasteland into a thriving mixed-use destination with culinary, retail, residential, and recreational attractions.

In 2003, BPG took a chance on the area and began development of a five acre parcel on the South side of the Christina River to later introduce a high-rise with 185 condo units, another high-rise with 173 rental units, and 63 townhomes. Over the past two decades, BPG has expanded its investments on both sides of the river and is responsible for the development of an additional 450 residential units across three properties as well as a 300,000 SF commercial office and warehouse, two major hotels, a 161,000 SF multipurpose sports complex, a movie theater, and beer garden among other retail properties.

Now, the focus has shifted to the next phase of the redevelopment with Riverfront East. BPG is working diligently with the Riverfront Development Corporation on the Master Plan for the future of the Wilmington Riverfront.

DOWNTOWN

Wilmington’s historic Market Street corridor has enjoyed a renaissance over the past two decades with new residential properties, retail destinations, office buildings, and entertainment venues.

BPG led the charge in this effort by acquiring over two dozen vacant or underutilized properties – from small walk-ups to large and iconic buildings – to create a critical mass of redevelopment and sustained momentum across phases of delivered projects. These properties span nearly 10 city blocks from Rodney Square in Wilmington’s Central Business District down the historic spine of Market Street to the revitalized Riverfront and total approximately 2 million square feet of development. The collective effort represents over $370 million of improvements and a vital infusion of amenities that have made the city ever more attractive.

BPG remains committed to this strategic approach and has expanded its development efforts off Market Street to widen the core of the Central Business District.
