WILMINGTON, DEMay 5, 2023 Wilmington-based developer, The Buccini/Pollin Group, Inc. (BPG), BPGS Construction, and ResideBPG are pleased to announce the completion of Crosby Hill, Downtown Wilmington’s newest multifamily residential community. Located at 517 N Shipley Street, the 11-story building brings 203 apartments to the previously dormant corridor and adds to the growing Wilmington skyline.

City of Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki joined BPG officials Rob Buccini, Co-President and Co-Founder, Mike Hare, Executive Vice President of Development, and Christine Schontube, Senior Vice President of Residential Operations, to celebrate the grand opening of Crosby Hill with a ribbon cutting ceremony and courtyard party on Thursday, May 4th at 4:00 PM. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests enjoyed an exclusive reception featuring tours of the impressive community, live music from Sam Nobles Jazz Trio, refreshments provided by neighboring business Stitch House Brewery, Makers Alley, and Oath 84, and a create-your-own sangria bar hosted by Danielle Baldwin of Girard Craft & Cork.

Designed by Niles Bolton Associates, Crosby Hill offers studio, one, and two-bedroom apartment homes with stainless-steel appliances, quartz counter tops and high-end finish details throughout.

The pet-friendly community includes two 4-story buildings and one 11-story building surrounding a private, landscaped courtyard with a swimming pool, fireplace, BBQ grills, screening area, and pergola. A private parking garage with 124 parking spots is located underground for residents. The building also features a fitness center, coworking space, game room and a penthouse clubroom on the 11th floor with unparalleled 360-views of the city. The penthouse boasts a demonstration kitchen, indoor fireplace, outdoor terrace, and building crown lighting that BPG plans to change the color of throughout the year to recognize important holidays, occasions, and organizations. With unbeatable access to the Wilmington Train Station and Transit Center, local employment hubs, and neighborhood attractions in Downtown Wilmington and on the Riverfront, Crosby Hill is ideal for those looking to take their living to the next level.

The name Crosby Hill pays tribute to the Crosby and Hill Department Store that prominently served Wilmington for nearly a century from 1878 to 1960 at 605 Market St. Described by the Every Evening in 1888 as “an indication of the substantial development of the retail trade in Wilmington…[and] an ornament to the lead business center of the city,” BPG believes this new development will be just as successful and influential to the City as its namesake.

The $62 million project builds off the spine of Market Street and marks a new anchor development on Shipley and Orange Streets, widening the core of the Central Business District in Downtown Wilmington. Prior to demolition, the site was a vacant surface parking lot. Located on the major thoroughfare of Orange Street, Crosby Hill is a new and welcoming entry into the Wilmington CBD from the South.

Crosby Hill adds a liveliness to this block of Shipley Street that has been dormant for decades. Adjacent to the new luxury boutique hotel The Quoin, the historic Willingtown Square, and the Wilmington staple La Fia Bistro, the multifamily community creates a new sense of place right off Market Street.

With an expected 350 new residents, Crosby Hill impacts the broader strategy to build critical mass in Downtown Wilmington by delivering luxury living accommodations within walking distance of the lifestyle attractions, public transit options, and employment hubs necessary to attract and retain young professionals.

To date, BPG has brought over 2,200 units to the residential market in Wilmington and has another 700 units under development or construction. BPG’s residential portfolio is stabilized above 94% occupancy across the board, reinforcing the company’s unwavering confidence in the Wilmington residential market.

“Wilmington continues to grow and expand its offering of diverse, livable neighborhoods,” said Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki. “We’ve seen an incredible increase in housing options in our Downtown neighborhood in recent years, largely due to the unprecedented investment of our trusted partners at BPG who continually demonstrate their deep affection and support for our City.”

“The Crosby Hill project was possible because Wilmington is not only a great place to live, work, raise a family and have fun, but more and more people believe in this mantra and are staking a claim in our City’s future,” continued Mayor Purzycki. “I extend my thanks to the people throughout this great City who believe in the power of our neighborhoods to push Wilmington to even greater heights.”

“When we celebrated the topping off of Crosby Hill in January 2022, construction was also well underway at the now thriving Quoin Hotel and Bardea Steak. I remember commenting that when all the development was complete, this would be a truly transformational area of Downtown Wilmington,” said Rob Buccini, Co-President of the Buccini/Pollin Group. “I am proud to stand here today at Crosby Hill as we celebrate the final piece of the puzzle and see that statement ring true. I want to thank you to our incredible partners without whom this project would not be possible, especially Bank OZK, Niles Bolton Associates, the City of Wilmington, BPGS Construction, and ResideBPG.”
