A Wilmington couple is gearing up to open a French-style bakery at the Wilmington Riverfront later this spring.

Margo Gorschkova and Jeff Schwarz are currently refurbishing a 1,600-square-foot site on Justison Street, next to Riverfront Pets. The building, across from the Constitution Yards beer garden, is owned by The Buccini/Pollin Group.

The business that the couple is calling Riverfront Bakery will be closer to a European-style patisserie, Gorschkova said. She said it will specialize in a variety of small-batch pastries made fresh daily, but it will not sell breads.

The empty space, now under construction, will have a “bright, airy” look along with chandeliers and seating for 24 people inside as well as high top tables and benches, Schwarz said. They also plan on having tables on the sidewalk.
