Artists from across the nation gathered in Wilmington, Monday October 14th to kick-off a week long painting competition extravaganza to benefit children with special needs as part of Plein Air Brandywine Valley (PABV). This competition, show and sale features one-of-a-kind works of scenic properties throughout the Brandywine Valley. including private estates, land preserves, renowned DuPont properties and most recently, downtown Wilmington cityscapes.
When approached by PABV organizer and Children’s Beach House (CBH) Development Director, John Cigler, The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) was eager to support the cause and show-off some of Wilmington’s undiscovered places:
Makers Alley, Wilmington’s first beer garden, an outdoor space on the 12th floor of the Nemours Building, Chelsea Plaza, an open walkway connecting Market St. and Shipley St. opposite the Grand Opera House and two riverfront locations, DuPont Environmental Education Center and Hare-Pavilion
At the conclusion of the week, more than 700 works were created, available for view and purchase at the PABV opening reception held at The Visitor Center of Winterthur Museum and Garden. Among the award winning paintings were, “Fall Rooftops” by Elaine Lisle painted from the 12th floor of the Nemours Building and the 2020 PABV Calendar cover winner, “Railroad Bridge” by Radhikas Srinivas (both pictured above).
Children’s Beach House (CBH) is a Delaware-based non-profit working to fulfill the founder Lydia Chichester du Pont’s vision to help children with communicative disabilities and other special needs to be successful in life. Development Director, John Cigler has worked year over year to organize the event, keeping the organization’s mission in mind, to help these youth reach their highest potential while becoming contributing members of their families and communities.
All winning artwork can be found in the 2020 Plein Air Brandywine Valley Calendar now availible for purchase. One-hundred percent of proceeds will directly benefit CBH.
