The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) invites high school students to apply for its Summer 2022 BPG University (BPG U) internship program. Launched last year, BPG U is The Buccini/Pollin Group’s first internship program designed explicitly for teens to learn all aspects of real estate development prior to finishing high school. With a strong focus on professional development, the goal of the internship program is to expose students to a variety of potential careers with all levels of education requirements and connect them with pathways for future employment either at BPG or other real estate and construction firms.

The Summer 2022 session will begin June 13, 2022 and run through July 1, 2022. Students must be a rising junior or senior at a Delaware high school to be eligible to apply. Eight students will be selected to participate following an interview process. No prior experience is required. Application deadline is 11:59 PM on April 15, 2022. The internship with take place at BPG’s headquarters in Downtown Wilmington, DE and all participants are expected to attend in person. DART transportation passes or free parking passes will be provided upon request.

During the 3-week paid internship, students will interact with each department at BPG, from acquisitions & finance to leasing & marketing to development & construction to procurement & operation; and learn how their daily responsibilities relate to the overall success of the organization. Through this rotational model, interns will learn the various ways teams work together to bring a development project to fruition. Interns will then select a focus department to shadow throughout the remainder of the internship, becoming fully embedded in that department. Prior to “graduating,” the students will present their experiences and takeaways to BPG leadership.

BPG U will also introduce students to the corporate environment and provide them with the soft-skills necessary to enter this type of workplace. Upon completion of BPG U, each student left with a portfolio of work and a network of ongoing mentors committed to their continued success.

In 2021, BPG graduated its inaugural class of BPG University (BPG U) interns. Following the program, several students expressed interest in pursuing a career in real estate development and reached out to take advantage of the networking opportunities introduced by BPG U, including Grace Umoren-Udo. A senior at Appoquinimink High School, Grace returned to BPG for an internship during the school year, assisting with the Lower Hill Redevelopment in Pittsburgh, PA.

“I had no idea what to expect when I joined the program,” said Grace Umoren-Udo. “Rather than a typical internship, BPG U, like a university, gave us multifaceted education in real estate. My fellow interns and I came ready and eager to learn and left full of inspiration and aspirations for our future careers. It’s undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

A recap video of the 2021 BPG U internship is available to view on YouTube. Buccini/Pollin Co-Presidents Rob and Chris Buccini also sat down with two of the students for a more in-depth conversation about their BPG U experience on an episode of Field Notes with Rob & Chris.
